LIST OF BIRDS SEEN AROUND SHENVAL ORGANIC B&B
IN THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS

The area around Shenval organic Bed and Breakfast, near Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland is blessed with the presence of over 100 different bird species, including golden eagle, black grouse, osprey, red kite, Scottish crossbill and crested tit. Habitats are widely varied and include agricultural land, pastures, woodland, moorland, wetlands, mountains, rivers, lochs, mudflats, cliffs and sea. With Corrimony RSPB Nature Reserve and Glen Affric National Nature Reserve on the doorstep of Shenval Bed & Breakfast, and a further four RSPB Reserves within easy reach, the whole area is a heaven for birdwatching and ornithology.

Only minutes away from Shenval B&B, the Corrimony black grouse safaris are usually held  every April. Join RSPB staff for an early morning trip by minibus through Corrimony nature reserve to see one of Scotland's most rare and beautiful birds. Visit a lek, where male black grouse posture and call, competing to win the sought after position of top bird as the sun rises. More details on our OUTDOOR EVENTS page in the left hand column.

One of the green tourism pursuits available from Shenval B&B is birdwatching. Only a short drive from your B&B accommodation at Shenval B&B, the RSPB’s Tollie Red Kites site provides close-up views of our most graceful bird of prey, with equally stunning views across Easter Ross to Ben Wyvis. Food is put out daily by a team of local volunteers and you can enjoy your birdwatching from the comfort of a specially-converted farmstead building. The visitor centre is open from 9 am to 5 pm but there is open access to the outdoor viewing screens. Feeding time is 2.30 pm in summer (BST) and 1.30 pm in winter (GMT).
